FAQ

  • How do you charge for your services?

Our initial meeting is free. At this time we will discuss with you your goals for your project, making sure we understand what you have envisioned and the extent of the work required. We take the time to evaluate the project and then we develop a Value Based Fee proposal. What this means is that together we determine your exact needs and how much you wish to invest into your project, and what is the most appropriate fee structure. Under this system you can be confident that the project will not exceed your budget amount.

As a general guide our design consultation fee for a single room starts from $300 inc. GST.

  • Do you cater for small projects?

While our clients benefit the most from our full service renovation and design service, we do also offer our services on a smaller scale. We can design single rooms within your home, update joinery or focus on colour consultations. If you speak with one of our design consultants they will be happy to discuss your requirements and formulate a plan that will meet your needs and your budget.

  • Do we need to have our own Project Manager?

No. IJF Living will take care of everything. One of the advantages of working with us is that you only need to communicate with your design consultant, and he or she will coordinate the entire project for you ensuring everything runs smoothly and to schedule. With our team overseeing every detail you can relax, knowing you are saving time and money.

  • Why do I need to have a budget estimate so early in the project?

Ideally we would like to discuss your budget at our very first meeting. Some clients are hesitant to commit to a budget at this early stage; however it is important to remember that this information allows us to more accurately detail the service we can provide for you.

In cases where there is not enough money set aside, we will educate you as to why the amount you want to invest is insufficient for the desired result, so you can make informed alternate choices. And in cases where the budget is higher than required we will also keep you informed so you can choose to spend less, or alternatively we can discuss ways to create and even greater space for you.

Having an interior designer manage your project means you will be fully informed about the costs of the project, and at no time will you get any unexpected surprises.

  • Can we choose our own contractors?

Of course! At all times we work as your advocate, and will work towards ensuring the best outcome for you and your project. We are happy to work with your choice of contractor as long as they adhere to our strict policy of quality and are committed to protecting your investment. If at any time we feel that your choice of contractor is not meeting the necessary requirements we do reserve the right to replace them with a more suitable party, but will only do so with your knowledge.

  • How long will the project take?

Every project is unique, yet our experience with similar projects allows us to estimate fairly accurately how long each stage of a project will take. As a general guide you should expect the following timeframes (depending on your choice of finishes).

    • Complete Renovation of 4Bed Home: 12-18 months
    • Refurbishment of 4Bed Home (no major construction): 6-12 months
    • Complete Renovation of Studio Apartment: 9-12 months
    • Refurbishment of Studio Apartment: 3-6 months
    • Kitchen Renovation: 3-4 months
    • Bathroom Renovation: 3-4 months
    • Custom closets or built-ins: 2-4 months
    • Furniture, window treatments or wall coverings: 2-4 months

These estimates account for the initial design, ordering and installation of the items. Actual displacement times for you and any members of your household are kept to a minimum, but will depend on the scope of your project.

  • What is your studio‚Äôs decorating/design style?

All of our design consultants bring different talents to our team and from our initial conversation with you, we try and match you to the designer that we feel best meets your needs and personality.

We don't have a particular style; our role is to help you develop yours. We do not believe in creating common designs based on current trends. It is our job to create a space which is totally reflective of your personality, your lifestyle, and addresses your design needs.

  • Will you meet with us outside of normal business hours?

All meetings with a design consultant are by appointment only, and we will do our best to try and meet with you at a time convenient to your schedule. However, our preference is to meet with you during normal business hours. If this is not possible please feel free to discuss your individual requirements with a member of our team.

  • What should I do before our first meeting?

Collect images from magazines or the internet that capture the look, style or colours that you like. Think about the space and what is not working for you and create a list of things you would like to change and things that you want to remain the same. Know what you would like to accomplish and what the room or house should do for you when finished. Be clear about your objectives and lifestyle needs, budget, and time frame in which you would like to work.
